1.Thriving Community and Friendly Neighborhoods
One of the first things you’ll notice about Dayton is the sense of community. People here are incredibly friendly and welcoming. The neighborhoods are tight-knit, and you’ll often see neighbors chatting out in the driveways, kids playing together, and community events happening all year round. From farmers’ markets to local festivals, there’s always something to bring everyone together. In my community of Springboro, a walk down Main St shows this in action. You will see us out shopping at the local boutiques, kids (and adults) lining up in front of the K to get ice cream and just across the street from there you will hear live music on the patio at Heather’s cafe. This strong sense of community not only makes living here enjoyable but also creates a supportive environment where everyone looks out for each other.
2. Excellent Education and Schools

While Fair Housing laws keep me from going into specifics when it comes to schools, what I can tell you is that for most, education is a top priority, and South Dayton doesn’t disappoint. Our area boasts some of the best schools in the state, with highly rated public and private institutions. The schools are known for their dedicated teachers, robust academic programs, and a
variety of extracurricular activities. Whether you’re just starting preschool or preparing for college, South Dayton provides an excellent educational foundation. My youngest son is about to start college at Wright State in Beavercreek this fall, making this momma happy to have my baby at a top rated school so close to home. And by home, I mean me. Close to me. Anyway… If you want to know more about our local schools, I recommend you check out Niche.com to get in more depth information.
3.Beautiful Parks and Outdoor Recreation
South Dayton is a haven for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts. The area is home to numerous parks, trails, and recreational areas that provide a perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of city life. Whether you enjoy hiking, biking, picnicking, or just taking a leisurely stroll, there’s something for everyone.
Some popular spots are Cox Arboretum, where every kid in Ohio seems to go for their prom pictures, Sugarcreek MetroPark is a favorite for all the mom’s that love to hike, and if you like to bike ride, you won’t want to miss the the beautiful trails along the Little Miami River. This one is not to be missed. The trails span for miles and you can stop off for a beer and a burger along the way at the Little River Bar and Grill, you will be glad you did!! There is no shortage of green spaces and outdoor activities making South Dayton an ideal place for an active and healthy lifestyle.
4. Location
Dayton is located in the heart of the Midwest, so it’s easy to get to other major cities like Cincinnati, Columbus, and Indianapolis. We’re also close to several major airports, so it’s easy to travel anywhere in the world. Folks, I can’t stress this one enough. If you live in Dayton, you have access to so many other cities. Cincinnati is less than an hour away making it almost an extension of Dayton. Columbus is just over an hour away and Indianapolis is right at 2 hours. With such close proximity to these cities we have access to some of the country’s best doctors, hospitals, shopping, zoos, art scenes, broadway shows, music venues, and professional sports. All at our back door. We not only have major airports located in all of the mentioned cities but also in Louisville and Lexington. All of these cities are within a 2 hour drive of Dayton.
5. Affordable Cost of Living
Lastly, South Dayton offers an affordable cost of living and housing market compared to many other cities. Whether you’re looking to rent or buy, you’ll find a range of options that fit different budgets. The real estate market here is diverse, with everything from charming historic homes to modern new builds. This affordability, combined with the high quality of life, makes South Dayton an attractive place to live. You can enjoy all the amenities and benefits of a thriving community without breaking the bank. But don’t just take my word for it, in May of this year, US News and World Report named Dayton as one of the 25 Best Affordable places to live in the US in 2024.
So there you have it – my top five reasons why I love living in South Dayton, Ohio. From the warm and welcoming community to the excellent schools, beautiful parks, location, and affordable living, South Dayton truly has it all.
